Marriage is the Least Romantic Thing You Could Do

To prospective people getting married.

I think it's worth knowing that marriage is almost entirely unromantic. Romanticism is maxed out when you're dating:

  1. You dress up every time you see each other.
  2. You smell good.
  3. You do grand gestures.
  4. You're away from each other often (this builds tension)

When you're married you:

  1. Add sex.
  2. Add everything possible about the person that isn't romantic. You now see your partner when they are smelly, sick, have bad breath, are grumpiest, messiest, have all their bad habits etc.

So why get married?

One word: meaning. Meaning gets maxxed out when you get married. Your spouse's hopes are now your hopes and their troubles are now your troubles. Everything you do now gets put through a partner filter and vice versa. You now have direction because you have consequences. If you up and decide to leave your job it affects your partner. If you don't make money it affects your partner. How you act on a daily basis affects your partner.

And for that I highly recommend getting married. It's just not romantic.
